Program book biography

Presenters are welcome to use the following short biography.

Baian Chen is a countertenor based in Boston and a student at the New England Conservatory. Over the past two seasons, he has performed eight operatic roles in the United States and Europe, including Arsamene in Serse, the Refugee in Jonathan Dove's Flight, Polinesso in Ariodante, Tolomeo in Giulio Cesare in Egitto, Orfeo in Orfeo ed Euridice, Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Bradamante in Alcina.

In concert, Chen has appeared at the Hochschule für Musik Mainz's Roter Saal and the City Hall of Kiedrich, and has performed Bernstein's Chichester Psalms and Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, among other recital engagements in Europe and the United States. Specializing in repertoire from the early Baroque to contemporary works, he brings clarity, expressive nuance, and dramatic presence to his performances.
