Baian Chen

Baian Chen is a Boston-based countertenor and an emerging international artist currently studying at the New England Conservatory. In just two seasons, he has performed eight operatic roles across the United States and Europe, establishing a rapidly expanding repertoire that includes Arsamene in Serse, the Refugee in Jonathan Dove's Flight, Polinesso in Ariodante, Tolomeo in Giulio Cesare in Egitto, the Spirit in Dido and Aeneas, Orfeo in Orfeo ed Euridice, Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Bradamante in Alcina.

Chen's recital activity spans internationally. Recent highlights include concert appearances at the Hochschule für Musik Mainz's Roter Saal and the City Hall of Kiedrich, Germany, as well as performances of Bernstein's Chichester Psalms in Boston and Pergolesi's Stabat Mater in London.

Recognized for his imaginative musical insight and refined artistic sensibility, Chen brings intellectual precision and emotional immediacy to the stage. His versatility across early, Baroque, Classical, and contemporary repertoire reflects both stylistic fluency and dramatic commitment.

Under the mentorship of tenor Bradley Williams, he continues to shape a distinctive artistic voice grounded in technical discipline, historical awareness, and expressive depth.
